Snow Day!

On Sunday we heard reports of a winter weather advisory over our area of Minnesota. Marco and I managed to get work off Monday, knowing we would easily get stuck in the snow if we tried to leave our driveway. And sure enough, we were blanketed in snow on Monday morning. It continued snowing all through out Monday and into the evening, tapering off early Tuesday morning.
Since we were snow bound Monday, Marco and I took a snowy walk through our woods. By the time we got outside, 6 inches of snow had fallen, 5 more inches fell by Tuesday morning.

The mountain of snow the fell allowed us to silently hike through the woods. We walked to the outskirts of our woods and startled a pack of 20 turkeys roosting in the large oak and birch trees! They noisily took flight, awkwardly flapping their large wings and barrling through tree branches in a hurried escape! The woods were peaceful and quiet, all the animals took a snow day too!
I buried Boston in the snow when we arrived back at the barn.
A few days ago our black and white chicken passed away. She was unable to use her legs and just crouched in one corner of the chicken pen. It's common for chickens to pass away during the cold of winter. Marco and I will be buying a new batch of chickens this spring and will be looking for a "hearty" breed that can withstand the cold. We feared our white chicken would soon follow suit, she seemed to be having trouble with one of her wings and wasn't walking well. However, each time I noticed her on the coop floor, I would pick her up and place her in one of the nesting boxes. A few days later she was up and about, with an appetite and strong legs! We were glad of that, she lays good eggs.
