Sanding and Painting

Marco and I have kept busy in doors these past few weeks. We began sanding our crib in preperation to paint it. The crib has some wonderful memories, being that it was my dad's crib when he was a baby. We figured it needed a new paint job before April. We sanded it by hand, which didn't take too long, all the while we were listening to Car Talk and Wait, Wait Don't Tell Me on Minnesota Public Radio. MPR has a great weekend program line up, so it's fun to put it on and do other activities simultaniously.

Marco and I then began to paint. We picked four colours, red, yellow, green and black. We put three coats of paint, allowing five hours between each coat to ensure it didn't get tacky. The two pieces we successfully painted look bright, shiny and beautiful. It's going to be a lovely crib when the whole thing is finished.
Over the weekend Marco went to work on sanding and staining our entryway. Over Christmas we had painted the walls and doors of the entryway and the final step was to update the wood floor with a new stain and varnish. Marco spent five hours sanding the floors. He rigged up a wonderful fan system in the window to pull some of the dust out of the room, however sawdust gets everywhere with or without a fan.
The next day Marco applied a lovely golden oak stain to the floors, allowing five hours for it to set before applying the varnish...the last step! The varnish needed three coats and three hours of drying time between coats. The entryway looks brand new!
