Our Barn Rabbit

A few weeks ago I spotted a rabbit hanging out next to the chicken coop in our barn. We have a little chicken "door way" leading into the barn from outside. The rabbit must have discovered it, found a spot away from the freezing wind and stumbled upon corn and hay! - feast for a rabbit! Well, the barn rabbit has become comfortable in her new home, becoming less and less afraid of the two humans that go in and out occasionally throughout the day.

Marco and I have decided to let the rabbit stay in the barn, become fat on cracked corn and hay and eventually give us a free dinner of rabbit stew! Last winter Marco spotted a rabbit and successfully shot it. We were able to process it and roasted it with potatoes and carrots. It tasted great and it was meat that we, ourselves, obtained! We are not opposed to hunting rabbit and if our barn rabbit wants to get fat off our food, we'll get fat off of the barn rabbit in due time. The plan, when the time comes, is I will coax the rabbit outside and Marco will be on the stake out! We are excited. This is time well spent on the farm in winter!
