The Quest for the Nintendo

Marco and I spent a lovely Christmas on the farm with my family. My sister spent the holiday with us, flying in from New York the Monday before Christmas. On Thursday, Christmas Eve, a huge snow storm moved into our area and the snow didn't stop until Saturday morning. Thankfully everyone arrived on the farm safely and on Christmas Day our little cousins enjoyed romping in the huge snow drifts. We even managed to build a snowman. He stayed up for a few days until the weather warmed and he toppled over!
New Year's Day turned into the Quest for the Nintendo. Over the summer months, Marco and I spent a lot of time at my grandpa's cabin - a 15 minute walk from our farm. We even brought our old Nintendo NES to play Mario games in the cool of the evening. We never brought the Nintendo back with us, and on New Year's we decided we would venture through the arctic weather to retrieve it. What you must understand is the cabin has an almost 1/2 mile long driveway...which doesn't get plowed in the winter since no one actually lives out on the cabin. Marco and I would be breaking a path to the cabin in -20 weather! But we were up for the challenge. We bundled ourselves in our winter-iest wear: scarves, mittens, hats, thermal underwear, layers of long-sleeved shirts, hoodies, double socks, boot socks, down jackets and snowpants.

It took us an hour to get to the cabin with how deep the snow was. When we arrived, Marco began hunting for scrap wood because the cabin had a wood stove in it and we wanted to warm up next to a roaring fire. We got the fire started. Upon investigation we found the smoke was not escaping through the chimney, but began leaking into the cabin. The stove hadn't been used in years and years, so we figured it was blocked with who-knows-what. By the time we realized all this, however, we had warmed up sufficiently and the fire began to die down. We put the rest of it out with snow from outside and bundled ourselves up for the trek back home. Of course, we remember to pack up the Nintendo least we forget it.
We took the scenic route back, walking along the small lake on my grandpa's property.
An hour later we made it back to the farm. We immediately set the Nintendo up excited to try out a game we recently bought. Come to find out, the game required an extra attachment we did not have! Determined not to be disappointed, Marco and I played Mario World Three and beat Bowser in record time!
By far, our most enjoyable New Year's to date!
