We're gone from autumn to winter in one evening. The temperature dropped to 25 a few nights ago and we awoke to a sprinkling of snow on the ground. It looks delightfully festive....even if it is October. By the afternoon all the snow melted, but we got some big, fluffy flakes the next day on our drive to St.Cloud for school. The snow was perfectly sticky for making snowmen/women, although Marco and I didn't get the chance. By the time we arrived home from St.Cloud the snow had melted. The goats and donkeys are still enjoying their grazing area and are getting to the green grass even with the snow barrier. They all look wonderfully fuzzy with their winter coats. The chickens have been staying in the barn a lot more lately. We've begun feeding them more, since they have less to forage on in the yard.
Marco and I have been taking lots of walks through our woods lately, the fall weather is perfect for bundling up and getting our blood pumping. We had a silent walk yesterday, being as quiet as we could while trudging through the woods. We spotted 3 gray squirrels and 2 red squirrels bounding through the tree tops. We also found a cool blue jay feather and heard crows calling out to each other. The silent walk gave us to opportunity to hear the sounds of the woods and spot animals we otherwise would have missed.
Yesterday afternoon while I was at school, Marco hosted the Dassel Area Red Hats Society at Cedar Hills. They were given a tour of the barn corral and gardens, the massage therapy room and ended with some homemade pumpkin pie and coffee. We love giving tours of Cedar Hills and were excited for the Red Hats to take a look around. We recently had an article in the local paper highlighting everything we do at Cedar Hills. I'm working on scanning a copy of the article so I can put it up on the journal. I believe the article is also at the Enterprise Dispatch archives page online if you'd be interested in checking it out.
Just a friendly update of life on the farm!
Until next time...
I would love to read the article... and who are the Red Hats? It went from Summer weather 27C to 4C today...It was sleeting on us today and yesterday we had 45 mph winds. Insane
