Chicken feed, gardening and the grazing area

Marco and I have been busy on the farm. We just picked up two, 80 pound bags of cracked corn for the chickens. We buy the corn at the local feed lot in Dassel. It's right next to the old Dassel Creamery so I snapped a few pictures of the old red brick building.
The chickens have enjoyed foraging around the yard for bugs and seeds; however they've gotten into the habit of crossing the road to get to the other side. We figured if we restocked our corn supply it would encourage them to stay put.
The gardens are healthy and fruitful. We've begun picking winter squash and the zucchini is not far behind. We'll have a bounty of pumpkins and cucumbers too!
A few weeks ago we discovered our goats hanging out by the front door. We knew immediately that the fence in the grazing area was not working. We ushered the goats into the barn corral for the time being. Instead of fixing the fence immediately, we decided to keep the goats in the corral and utilize them around the house. We rigged up leashes for all five of them and put them out in sections of the yard that has over grown with weeds and vines. They did a bang-up job clearing the areas. Finally a few days ago we mowed around the fence line, fixed some of the wiring and brought the goats back to be with the donkeys. It was a sweet reunion and they are glad to be free to wander once again.
