Hello all! Well, it's been a busy few weeks with school and farm work...hence the lack of online journaling. I'm writing from a school computer, so unfortunately I can't upload the pictures we've taken of the farm work we've accomplished.
Cedar Hills is having an open house this Sunday. We decided to invite farmer's market visitors and anyone else interested in seeing the farm. We'll premiere our organic gardens and our beautiful farm animals. We have a walking trail through our woods and Marco is setting up the massage studio for people to check out and ask questions about massage therapy. We'll be taking orders for holiday pies (apple or pumpkin) of which are made with our homegrown apples and pumpkins. I'll probably bake up some goodies to offer at the open house to...any excuse to bake!
I baked some zucchini bread a month ago and put one loaf in the freezer. I recently pulled it out and it is delicious. It's amazing with the addition of butter, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg and chocolate chips how easy it is to forget there's two cups of zucchini in it. Mmmmm.
Our new grazing area is open and being used by our goats and donkeys. It's great practice for the donkeys...since we put a lead rope on them and walk them to the grazing area. They're getting comfortable with walking with us and learning that if they don't let us put the lead on...they're not gonna eat!
Our apple trees are brimming with big, juicy apples. We had little trouble with bugs and worms this year and we credited the chickens for that. They like to peck around the trees since there are a lot of bugs drawn to the apples. The chickens also hope for a fallen apple...it's a sweet treat form them.
Marco and I have started picking our cantaloupe. Although they're smaller than the one's in stores...oh my goodness are they sweet! We've been eating them for breakfast. There's something deeply satisfying about walking down to one's garden, picking fruit and eating it at the peak of it's freshness.
Marco finished splitting wood yesterday. That task is accomplished for another year! We have a great amount of firewood. I'm almost excited for the winter to arrive so we can snuggle in our warm family room around the wood stove.
Well, I just had to do a mini-update on what's been going on at Cedar Hills.
Until next time!
Oh My Pies for sale at Cedar Hills! I'd like to order a few! Glad all is well and wish you lots of fun at the Open House!
